Summer Concerts in Telluride, Brisbane, Aspen, and Los Angeles

Edgar Meyer’s summer kicks off with the Telluride Bluegrass Festival June 18 and 21. A Telluride mainstay, the American bassist and composer joins Béla Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bryan Sutton, and Stuart Duncan as the Telluride House Band on June 18. Three days later, Edgar reunites with frequent collaborator Chris Thile for a festival concert, highlighting works off of their Grammy-winning album Bass & Mandolin.

The following month, Edgar heads to Australia for the Queensland Music Festival in Brisbane. On July 17, he joins James Morrison for the world premiere of Savikangas’s Concerto for Trumpet and Double Bass. On the 19th, Edgar gives a solo recital at ABC Studio 420, and the following day he leads a public masterclass at the Queensland Conservatorium. The next evening, Edgar returns to the Queensland Conservatorium for his final concert with the festival alongside the Camerata of St. John’s. The program pairs Edgar’s own Double Bass Concerto in E with Bottesini’s Bass Concerto No. 2.

In August, Edgar reprises his Double Bass Concerto with the Aspen Chamber Symphony as part of the annual Aspen Music Festival and School (August 8) before heading to Los Angeles to reprise Bottesini with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at its summer home in the Hollywood Bowl. The August 27 evening of music also includes traditional selections with mandolinist Sam Bush and dobro virtuoso Jerry Douglas.
