Nonesuch Records releases Bach Trios with Edgar Meyer, Yo-Yo Ma, and Chris Thile

On April 7, Nonesuch Records will release Bach Trios, a collection of works by arranged for the renowned bassist, cellist, and mandolinist based on the composer’s works for keyboard instruments and viola da gamba.

The project links Edgar with two of his close collaborators. He has previously recorded two albums for Nonesuch with Thile, 2008’s Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile and 2014’s Grammy-winning Bass & Mandolin. He first recorded with Ma in 1996 for Appalachia Waltz, followed by 2000’s Appalachian Journey. All three musicians came together for Ma’s 2008 holiday album Songs of Joy, and then released Grammy-winning album The Goat Rodeo Sessions with Stuart Duncan in 2011.

The trio recently gave a preview of their album with the third movement from Sonata No. 3 and “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme” on the Thile-hosted radio program A Prairie Home Companion in December, and will come together once more for a nine-city U.S. tour beginning on April 21.

Bach Trios is now available for pre-order on iTunes, Barnes & Noble, and the Nonesuch Store — where the first movement of Trio Sonata No. 6 in G Major is available for immediate download. Additionally, the album will be recorded as a two-LP vinyl set on April 21.
